Fenerbahçe vs Dynamo Kiev

CL Matchday 2, Group G
Fenerbahçe vs Dynamo Kyiv
Tuesday 30 September 2008, 20:45 CET
Sükrü Saraçoglu - Istanbul

These two sides have never met before and may be deemed outsiders for a qualification spot, but there's plenty to prove for both teams in Istanbul on Tuesday...

TEAM NEWS

Fenerbahçe

Volkan Demirel missed out at the weekend but should be back in action. Coach Luis Aragonés is sweating on the fitness of Semih Senturk, Josico, Alex, and Edu. Edu and Josico are least likely to make it, but Semih and Alex seem able to return. Deivid and Gokcek Vederson are definitely out - both have missed every game so far this season.

The Yellow Canaries would normally line up 4-4-2, given that this is a home fixture, but a lack of striking options may see league top scorer Kazim-Richards (Kazim Kazim) play just off Dani Güiza in a wide-forward role.

Possible Starting XI: Volkan Demirel; Gonul, Lugano, Onder Turaci, Roberto Carlos; Emre Belozoglu, Sahin, Alex, Boral; Kazim Kazim; Güiza.

Dynamo Kiev

Coach Yuri Semin is waiting until the last minute to narrow his 21-man squad down to 18 for the Istanbul encounter. Definitely out are recently-injured Ayila Yussuf and Artem Milevskiy, as well as long-term absentees Oleh Gusev and Carlos Correa.

Guinean hotshot Ismael Bangoura will be expected to lead the line, while Ognjen Vukojevic should marshal the midfield.

Possible Starting XI: Shovkovsky; Betao, Diakhate, Mikhalik, Nesmachniy; Vukojevic; Ninkovic, Aliyev, Ghioane, Eremenko; Bangoura.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Fenerbahçe - Kazim-Kazim: Colin Kazim-Richards to his school friends and Kazim-Kazim to his Fenerbahçe fans, looking at the winger's career path still garners amazement. From Brighton & Hove Albion to the Istanbul giants in a year, the Londoner of Turkish Cypriot descent inspires admiration wherever he goes. Despite being not much of a goalscorer at his last club, Sheffield United, he finds the net often enough for the Yellow Canaries, having hit two league goals already this season. With Semih Senturk still out, he and Dani Güiza are the most likely candidates for a home goal.

Dynamo Kiev - Ognjen Vukojević: The 24-year-old Croat made fleeting appearances at Euro 2008, but these, combined with his game-winning form for Dinamo Zagreb over the last couple of years, persuaded Dinamo Kiev to part with €6m to procure his services. Having penned a five-year deal at the Lobanovsky Dynamo Stadium, he has been an ever-present this season and will be thus relied upon to steady the defensive midfield for this encounter.
