Ferguson Worried By Wasteful Manchester United

Manchester United had already qualified for the Champions League knockout rounds heading into their Group E closer with Aalborg last night.

Therefore it was a weakened Red Devils line-up which scraped a 2-2 draw against the Danish champions, with Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney each finding the net at Old Trafford.

And yet with a little more in front of goal the hosts could have galloped to a comfortable victory, and Sir Alex Ferguson could not hide his disappointment with his charges’ poor conversion rate.

“I am concerned by the chances we're missing,” the United manager said in the Daily Mail.

“I don't know what it is - concentration or carelessness. But we're going to embarrass ourselves if we are not careful.”

The most headline-worthy incident of the game did not occur in the goalmouth, however, as Rooney got ‘involved’ in much more than just scoring chances.

The England forward could face disciplinary action after being accused of stamping on the chest of Aalborg midfielder Kasper Risgard.

But Ferguson said: “I never saw anything with Rooney. They were quite tigerish themselves. One of their players could have been sent off for a tackle on Carlos Tevez.”
