Roma and Juve slip off the pace

Nine-man AS Roma lost their third game of the Serie A season after a 1-0 defeat at AC Siena and fellow UEFA Champions League participants Juventus also went down, 2-1 at home to US Città di Palermo, a result which ended their unbeaten record this term.

Super Mario
Liechtenstein striker Mario Frick gave Siena the lead on the stroke of half-time and Roma lost both Philippe Mexès and Christian Panucci to second-half red cards. After losing 3-0 at the same ground last season, this time the away side could not find a way past former goalkeeper Gianluca Curci. Fabrizio Miccoli gave Palermo a 24th-minute lead in Turin and although Alessandro Del Piero levelled matters six minutes before the break, there was still time in the first half for the home side's Mohamed Sissoko to be sent off after he picked up a second yellow card. Levan Mchedlidze then garnered all three points for the visitors in the 81st minute.

Viola triumph
ACF Fiorentina won 2-0 at AC Chievo Verona with Zdravko Kuzmanović (32) and Alberto Gilardino (74) scoring the goals, while the home side had Francesco Scardina sent off in the first half. Atalanta BC continued their impressive start to the campaign with a 4-2 win against struggling UC Sampdoria. Antonio Cassano had given the visitors the advantage early on and then equalised after the hosts had taken a 2-1 half-time lead. However, Sergio Floccari – with his second of the game – and Cristiano Doni secured the victory for the Orobici.

Napoli woe
AC Milan and bottom side Cagliari Calcio took a point each in the late game in Sardinia after a goalless draw in a match where there were six bookings. Elsewhere, there was more bad news for SSC Napoli after their UEFA Cup exit on Thursday as they lost 3-2 at Genoa CFC. Udinese Calcio won 2-0 against Torino FC to join S.S. Lazio and FC Internazionale Milano at the top of the standings on 13 points from six games and Reggina Calcio and Calcio Catania played out a 1-1 draw.
