Bordeaux 1 - 3 Roma



AS Roma staged a determined fightback against ten-man FC Girondins de Bordeaux to clinch their first win in Group A as second-half goals from Mirko Vučinić and Júlio Baptista, who scored twice, boosted the Italian club's hopes of reaching the knockout stage


CFR Cluj 0 - 0 Chelsea



CFR 1907 Cluj proved their Matchday 1 victory at AS Roma was no flash in the pan as they held Chelsea FC to a goalless draw in Transylvania.


GROUP B


Internazionale 1 - 1 Bremen




FC Internazionale Milano and Werder Bremen shared the spoils in an eventful Group B draw as Claudio Pizarro returned to haunt the Nerazzurri with another goal.Maicon gave Inter the lead with a close-range goal but Claudio Pizarro equalised in the 62nd minute, tapping in a deep cross that caught Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar out of position.


Anorthosis 3 - 1 Panathinaikos




Cypriot titleholders Anorthosis Famagusta FC celebrated the nation's independence day in style by beating Group B rivals Panathinaikos FC in Nicosia for their country's first win in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The hosts took control with two goals in four minutes - an own goal by Panathinaikos defender Jose Sarriegi and a powerful header from Sinisa Dobrasinovic - as they won their first ever Champions League group game.

GROUP C

Shakhtar 1 - 2 Barcelona





FC Barcelona turned defeat into victory in Ukraine as two late goals from substitute Lionel Messi overhauled an FC Shakhtar Donetsk side seemingly destined for the UEFA Champions League Group C summit.Shakhtar took the lead before half-time when Brazilian winger Ilsinho fired into the roof of the net and they held out until the 87th minute when Messi tapped in after keeper Andriy Pyatov spilt Bojan's cross.

The Argentine then snatched victory in the fourth minute of injury time with a delicate chip.

Sporting 2 - 0 Basel




Sporting Clube de Portugal got their UEFA Champions League campaign off the ground against FC Basel 1893, although it took a bizarre own goal to break the Swiss side's staunch resistance.Sporting moved up to second in the group after a 2-0 win at home to Basle thanks to second-half goals from Argentine playmaker Romagnoli and Derlei


GROUP D

Atlético 2 - 1 Marseille



Sergio Agüero was at his scheming best as Club Atlético de Madrid made it two wins in two Group D appearances with a 2-1 victory against Olympique de Marseille as the UEFA Champions League made a triumphant return to the Vicente Calderón. Sergio Aguero scored his third goal in two Champions League games after latching onto a Maxi Rodriguez through-ball before Mamadou Niang headed the French side level, but Raul Garcia sealed the win when he touched in a free-kick after Aguero had been fouled.

Liverpool 3 - 1 PSV





Robbie Keane's first goal in a Liverpool FC shirt and Steven Gerrard's 100th added to Dirk Kuyt's early opener to condemn PSV Eindhoven to their third UEFA Champions League defeat in three seasons at Anfield.
