Goalkeeping woes mount for Bordeaux

Share

UEFA Champions League contenders FC Girondins de Bordeaux are likely to be without goalkeeper Matthieu Valverde for at least a week after the stand-in for Ulrich Ramé suffered a head injury during his team's 2-0 win over AJ Auxerre on Saturday.

Knocked unconscious
The 25-year-old was knocked unconscious following after a collision with Auxerre striker Dennis Oliech on the stroke of half-time and was immediately taken to hospital. Scans revealed no permanent damage, but Valverde is certain to miss Tuesday's French League Cup tie with En Avant Guingamp and is expected to be also sidelined for next Sunday's trip to face Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyonnais. Third-choice goalkeeper Kevin Olimpa, 20, will fill in as regular No1 Ramé is also out of action with a groin injury, though Valverde ought to be fit in time for Bordeaux's UEFA Champions League home game with Chelsea FC on 26 November.
