Tuesday's Champions League review

GROUP A

Bordeaux kept their hopes of progressing from Group A alive after they beat CFR Cluj in Romania and Roma convincingly saw off Chelsea

Christian Panucci put Roma ahead before two brilliant goals by Mirko Vucinic extended the Italian side's lead and, although John Terry replied from close range, Deco's red card added to the Blues' misery.

Bordeaux led through Yoann Gourcuff's right-foot shot but Dani headed Cluj level before Wendel won it for the French side before half-time with a curling free-kick.

Chelsea remain top of the group on seven points but Roma and Bordeaux are just a point behind Luiz Felipe Scolari's side.

GROUP B

Group B remains wide open after Anorthosis Famagusta came from behind twice to draw 3-3 with Inter Milan at the San Siro and Panathinaikos beat Werder Bremen 3-0 in Germany.

Cedric Bardon made the most of a defensive error to equalise for Famagusta after Mario Balotelli had put Inter ahead and, although Marco Materazzi restored the Italian side's lead, Georgios Panagi levelled again before half-time.

After the break, Nicos Frousos found the bottom corner to put the Cypriots 3-2 up but Julio Cruz spared Inter's blushes in the 80th minute when he headed home from a corner.

Three second-half goals gave Panathinaikos their first victory of this European campaign, with a neat finish by Vangelis Mantzios breaking the deadlock before a spectacular volley by Giorgos Karagounis and Alexandros Tziolis's breakaway goal sealed victory for the Greek side.

GROUP C

Barcelona and Sporting both got the results they needed to make it through to the knockout stages.

Barca beat Basle 5-0 in Switzerland a fortnight ago and looked set to repeat that win when substitute Lionel Messi fired them ahead with a low shot - but Eren Derdiyok met Carlito's cross with a bouncing effort to earn the Swiss side a shock 1-1 draw.

Sporting will join them in the last 16 after Vanderlei Derlei scored the only goal of the game in their 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, who can still match the Portuguese side on points but will finish below them in Group C after being beaten by them in Ukraine and Lisbon

GROUP D

Steven Gerrard's disputed injury-time penalty gave Liverpool a point against Atletico Madrid, who had led through a first-half volley by Maxi Rodrigues.

Marseille thumped PSV 3-0 at a muddy Stade Velodrome to climb off the bottom of the group - but both sides remain five points behind Atletico and Liverpool, who are in the qualification spots.

Bakari Kone opened the scoring for Marseille after latching on to a fine Hatem Ben Arfa pass before two goals in quick succession by Mamadou Niang made certain of victory for the French side, who had not picked up a point in Europe this season before kick-off.
