Jadson stunned by Shakhtar success

Jadson was left almost speechless after his hat-trick helped FC Shakhtar Donetsk to a 5-0 win against FC Basel 1893 on Wednesday and clinched the Ukrainian champions a place in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup.

'Crisis over'
"What can I say? I'm just happy," the Brazilian playmaker told uefa.com following Shakhtar's biggest-ever win in European club competition, which secured them third place in Group C. "We dedicate this win to our supporters and the president, who kept faith in us even in the most difficult times," said Shakhtar captain Darijo Srna, whose team have won their last four Premier League fixtures after a sluggish start to their title defence. "Perhaps we have made up for all our misfortune this season. I think our crisis is over as today's success, together with the wins against FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Lviv in the Ukrainian Premier League, means our confidence is back."

'Not afraid'
Jadson's compatriot Willian and homegrown striker Yevgen Seleznov were also on target as Shakhtar defeated the Swiss champions for the second time this campaign following their 2-1 success in Basel on Matchday 1. Srna is now looking forward to his team's final group match against section winners FC Barcelona. "We are not afraid of them," he said. "If Basel were able to earn a draw at Camp Nou, then we can count on achieving even more."

Pyatov praise
Goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov, who kept a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive game in all competitions, praised the collective spirit and concentration of his team-mates. "In the second half, we carried out our plan to the letter," said the Ukrainian international. "It was great to see the way my colleagues turned nearly every chance into goals. I think we are improving game by game, and we've now begun to show the sort of quality football that our supporters expect from us."

Turning point
Despite the one-sided appearance of the scoreline, Basel's players believed fortune played a key role in ending their interest in European club competition this season. "I think Shakhtar and Basel are on the same level, but today our rivals got the luck," said Switzerland forward Eren Derdiyok. "We had a chance to restore parity at the beginning of the second half, but instead conceded more goals." Fellow Swiss international Valentin Stocker, whose shot was blocked on the line early in the second period, felt the same way, but added: "Nevertheless, I have to pay tribute to Shakhtar for their compact and aggressive football."
